Dot Bomb The Com!

The dnjournal 2014 list of top domain name sales is out. I am nostalgic, frustrated, chuffed and incredulous (is this actually possible without drugs?). From my first UK commercial website in 1996 (nostalgic!) I have had 3 rules for name value. Must be: 1) Made up of recognisable words; 2) Less than 8 characters; 3) A .com I thought this last rule was dead given the proliferation of suffixs but the list (chuffed!) says NO. So, why am I not a domain name millionaire (frustrated!)? And why has no one bought my goldsure & beingsure  domain names for mucho bucks? (Incredulous!)

The log files of my website show that my "Theory of Balls" page has been found by a visitor who typed in "theory of success in life" into @Google. Even though I am ranked 8 slots behind #Aristoltle #Plato I think this is bit of a 'win' don't you? SEE HERE It has been some time since I had a win on Google. In the early days of adwords I ran campaigns and became a Google case study (SEE HERE). Since the Big Agencies took over eCommerce the 'Don't Be Evil' mob have forgotten the little guy

“Gary, what's the best way to keep up with digital developments?"

Other than advice on what’s the best tech kit to buy, the question I am asked most as an eBusiness consultant is: “Gary, what's the best way to keep up with digital developments”. The answer is: 1. Record #BloombergWest everyday (it’s on 1800PST or free on the web) and speed watch at the weekend to keep up with Silicon Valley latest. 2. Develop a Reuters Beating Global Twitter feed (Learn how HERE.) This weekend for example, I learned about a new Flipboard-like start up called HelloReverb – a completely new way to discover news trending around the world. This will be big!

Flash Boys, with Tech Toys!

Last July I tweeted this mind-blowing graphic of a snapshot of High Frequency Trading. As more evidence emerges of a huge divergence between productivity and average wages (the gains from productivity have almost exclusively gone to the capitalist class, “the 1%”), HFT amplifies returns for the 1%. A new book out yesterday, Flash Boys, by Michael Lewis appears to evidence this. I am half way through it. It’s a brilliant read. You can arbitrage it at Amazon UK where it is available for the Kindle while being Kindle embargoed in the US:  Read This HERE Understand How Digital Is Changing Our World!
